What is prescription and its parts?
The prescription is an order written by a physician or any other registered medical practitioner (RMP) to a pharmacist to compound and dispense a specific medication for the patient.
The pharmacist to give the medication needs of the patients according to the intention of the prescriber.
The prescription are generally written in the language of the area in which they originate but latin words are used in the prescription writing.

Format of Prescription –
Name, Age, Gender, and address of the patient
Name, Age, Gender, and address of the patient must be written on the prescription if it is not written then the pharmacist should asked the finished product to a person.
Age and gender of the patient specially in the case of children help the pharmacist in checking the medication and dose. and the address of the patient is recorded to help for the any contact the patient or deliver the medication.
Date
The date should be written down by the prescriber at the same time. The date on the prescription helps a pharmacist to find out the causes for long time treatment.
Superscription (Rx)
The superscription is represented by a symbol Rx which is always written at the beginning of the prescription the Rx is latin word means take or you take.
Inscription
It is the main part of the prescription it contains the name and quantity of the prescribe ingredients.
The name of the ingredients are written each on a separate line.
The prescription is divided into 3 types –
- The form of ingredients
- Quantity of medicaments or ingredients
- In take dose of ingredients
Subscription
It is the part of prescription contains prescriber direction to the pharmacist regarding the dosage form to a prepared and number of dosage form.
Signatura
This is usually as (sig.) on the prescription and consist of the direction to be given to the patient regarding the administration of the medicine.
It is usually indicate the quantity of the medicaments or number of dosage units to be taken.
Sign, address and registration number of prescriber/physician
Now the last part of the prescription may be printed or written but the prescriber name must be hand written and should be signature. Address and registration number to be written of the prescriber.
